Huk ive got a major stumbling block to overcome before i fly the taylorcraft again. The 182 is giving me the ****s. ,ive tried tuning the majorly rich spot out of the mid range to keep the right cylinder alight thru transition but so far no luck.I own up to stripping the carbs once have i left something out? next move is to rip the engine out and send it to brian winch over east.
RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
O.F., Sorry, but I'm not the guy to ask about a 182. I briefly owned a FA180 and that big size scared me. I am very happy with my 82. Hopefully will acquire another 82 in the near future when funding (i.e. the wifey) allows.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Ok you lot I am back sort off. Been down south sorting out my mother before the final move. She has been diagnosed with dementia and I won't bore you with what that entails. I have been flying a litle (2 days a week when it warmed up to somewhere around 17degrees c) and some day I'll write about the idiots I have been meeting. ESM Swordfish with a 45cc gas engine in it with 5 yes 5 pound fishing line for rudder control.
Model a/c have been saving me some pain (the cop that picked me up doing a 150kph was so facinated with the O/T a/c he "forgot" to give me a ticket..
If any of you have seen the Pommie magazines on the Gratton spectular that is where I am flying now. A club of 9 with a limit of 20 almost heaven (I have to pay for coke from the fridge and nothing else).
On flying, lots of Saitos but I have been using my diesels of late. And my 21 Irvine (racing version) which worked ok once I cleared the castor out of it and remembered it went better with straight FAI fuel. A difference of some 6,000rpm. Yes 6000 RPM it has a Irvine stinger "tuned muffler" on it.
On glo plugs I won't relate the "stupidity of some people"blow ins to the field" but it has always been my practise to use the recommended Saito plug on Saitos the only exception has been OS F's or the YS 4 s plug when the Saio wasn't available. In most other cases an Enya 3 suffices .
Old fart on inverted engines, offset the engine so the exhaust valve points directly down, keeps some crap out of the plug and expels said crap on the first opening of the valve.
Thats all for now off to the doc to see about either a broken rib or pulled muscles in my side. One of Rudd's little darlings had to be convinced that the MRH 90 was not really an assault helicopter and that no matter what a squad of patrol equiped diggers could not be exchaned as quickly as it was done in the Delta during the 60's / 70's. In fact fr those interested it took 1 minute 10 secs to get the entire squad off. Think about that one. My son was one of those doing the demo.
Catch ya later. The big / final move happens next week but the important (models etc) fortunately has take place already with no problems
catc ya.

That also works well to keep the electrode clear on the small 1/4'' X 32 spark plugs when CDI is employed.
Good advise in either case.

How do I keep the muffler from loosening? My Chippie came with an aftermarket smoke muffler that uses a thread-in adapter. Although the weight of the muffler should help to keep the adapter tight, it still gets loose enough that it leaks a bit. I'm not keen on using thread locker in the cylinder but need to do something to keep the muffler adapter from unscrewing. Any suggestions? I thought of using Teflon tape but not sure it can take the heat.
Engine is an FA-100.

Thanks. I'll give it a try.

Teflon tape works good and so does high temp pipe thread compound with teflon. I got the latter at Ace Hardware in a little tube. Being a paste it is good for other places too.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
ok all, back again and a quick update before the wise words of wisdom. on the way to the docs i visited my old mate up here to collect the arizona models 504 kit he was giving me, stumbled over a block of cement and the result is a shattered left shoulder, 3 x major breaks and numerous chips of the surrounding bone. operation next wednesday with what is expected to be a 1/2 shoulder reconstruction. all good stuff, thus not going to the nationals etc but who knows.
now the wisdom bit
re twins and low exhaust valves, simple turn the engine upside down, it does work.
re the hot saitos, experiments with fuel are the start, working with nitro in the range 30 to 40 percent with a touch od acetone 1 percent
, we are also looking at deiising one to use as a high speed duration engine. we are using a clapped out 30.
re gas engines, ethonal blended fuel are proving bothersome, and industrial 2 stroke appears to be an substitute to that new saito oils hobby head quaters is marketng. i gather this oils is a klotz based / supplied on
old fart still got the old vt got a lot of work cleaning up my mothers place so will tade in the ash tray once that is done
apologies to all about the lack of capitals, i am down to one hand / 2 fingers

FNQFLYER, so sorry to hear about your tumble and shoulder. A few of us have had rotator cuff and tendon surgery but not that bad. Sleeping can be impossible for a while after the surgery. Do you have a recliner type chair? I did not.... but it sure can help.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
My heart goes out to you brother, in Feb. of 2012 I was lifting a 100 lb log onto a log splitter and felt and heard this awful crack and ripping sound. Needless to say I didn't get the log up to splitter. My left bicep was laying on top of my elbow joint, my arm mostly just hung there. Seven months later the Dr. released me with no restrictions. That was a total surprise. Five incisions and four titanium screws. Here's a shot of the right after surgery and now. Mr. Dr. says I have the least amount of muscle mass loss of any 71 year old she has seen.
