Hi i meant to ask if you are running on board glow at low idle speeds,i like the continental style shape of the heads on the 90ts a friend has one unrun yet to go in a small falke motorglider, very graceful aeroplane re aerobatics. The pipes you salvaged from a 100? to fit the 90 cracked me up,who's on drugs now?
ps while i'm at it i should apologize to the good people reading this thread for popey's genteel, anti shooting manner. The poor so and so lives in a redneck free southern state over here, how's that for being round the other side of the world geography wise,it's upside down i reckon

Old Fart, don't pick on the pope after all his state is the last real strong hold of Sarah 2 dads and her buddies. They can't build ships but their O/T flyers do offer some competition at National level. Re the 82 and the 115, you pay the freight and lodge a security deposit and I might even think about it after a bottle of good QLD white otherwise you'll have to come over and collect them
Pete, I never use on board glow power, I never saw the need for it. I tried it once so long ago that the on board system was built by ACE RC in Higginsville, Mo. I had a mechanical switch that you slid the actuator for or aft to set the energize point. I have the correct pipes coming.
PS, please say something about my new OS .56 or my feelins will be hurt.

OS 56 and Saito 56 no comparison. Saito any day especialy as a competition engine. Old fart good to see you got the last missive, pity about the pope, give him a compliment and what do you get, a ship that they call a sub. Any way droll peasants, the fog has lifted and I am off to commit aviation. A Feather Merchant powered by a YS 63 and a Lanzo Racer powered by a ASP 32 diesel (used to have a Saito 30) and maybe my new "full house" trainer. 10 minutes to the field and breakfast. Catch ya. Old Fart on that offer well you will have to do better after all they are Saitos.

I'm Getting My Own Airfield
Well, sort of.
The local AMA club got word that the present site for their field located on ALCOA property will no longer be available. For the last few weeks, I have had several meetings, first with one of the members I know & his friend, then with several club members that wanted to see the site. Last night, after a membership meeting, about 10 of the members came out for another look & it was made official. The club will relocate to a 10 acre hayfield on my property, The field is located on a flat top rise about 200 yards from the road, just across the road from my house.
We will sign a 1 year trial period lease & in all likelihood opt for a longer term lease next spring. I am going to write up the trial period lease agreement over the next few days.

I don't own a 72 by my 115 gets noticeably hotter than the 2 cycle engines I've had. One of my fellow club members assured me this is normal. The 2 cycles do get hot but seem to cool quicker. Especially if they are allowed to idol for a moment. I think the four strokes have more surface area that gets noticeably hot. After a few years no harm to the FA 115 and I have finally learned not to burn my arm (the engine is inverted so the hot muffler is on the opposite side). It may be worth the cost of an inexpensive infrared thermometer to check that your engine is not truly overheating.

I will try and get a infrared thermometer today but i can tell you the muffler and engine head were really hot you can't keep your finger on there for more than a second. Also i noticed the aluminum spinner and prop shaft were warm .

That's a sign of a bad front bearing.

The cooling here needs some work . If this was mine here is what I would do . Those openings next to the spinner don't do much to help as is . I would close them off completely and paint them black . Now that there taken care of open up the bottom hole at the front .It needs to head towards the spinner . You want the air to hit the cylinder and be forced passed through the fins to carry the heat away . Thats why the top ones are near useless unless there baffled to force air down to the head . More often then not they just force air into the the cowl and it blocks more cooling air coming in where its needed ie, the head . One last thing dont worry that it may spoil the scale lines of the plane . YOU DONT want to COOK your beautiful engine . The late P E Rievers had a great set of pics explaining it on his website but since his death its no more . Maybe u could find it . Ive got them but cant upload them for some reason too easily . Try this first and then you can look into adding louvers if necessary . Cheers the pope

Mufflers get bloody hot so thats not a sign necessarily . Warm is ok , hot is when you cant leave your finger on there for a second or 2 . Normally if u have bearing issues u can hear them or there is slop when u grab the prop both sides near the ends and give it a wiggle . Cheers

I checked holding the prop at the ends and wiggiling it it seems tight and no slop and the engine when running sounds nice. I will work on the cooling if that does not work i will have a fellow flyer change the bearings.

If your going to open up the front dont go too large . Just enough so you can see the solid part of the barrel , not the fins .That way the air hits the barrel and goes around through the fins , otherwise the air will go to the least resistant path and that is where theres nothing in front of it . Think of the air as water when it hits something it will go around it but if theres nothing in front it will go straight ahead .Go upwards towards the prop nut you dont have open up the front as to expose the cam box just the barrel is fine . Good luck and report back , If you do as I suggest you will have a cooler running engine. Cheers
