Ed, it goes like this. I use a 16 oz tank and fuel with 18%/syn/castor blend.
10 minutes under 4,000
10 minutes at===5,000
10 minutes at===6,000
10 minutes at===6,500 to 7,000
refill tank and set LS needle with the HS needle at peak, richen top down about 300 rpm and burn second tank at various rpm of your choosing. Do a couple of full throttle power runs during this run. Fly
I converted a Tartan 1.34 single to Diesel operation.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Ok guys, I'm ready to break in my Saito 100, here is what I have got so far. The low speed is now flush with the throttle arm even though It was .5mm under flush out of the box, the high speed is 3 1/2" turns out, I will be using a 14x4 K-Series Master Airscrew prop and 15% Cool power fuel. Sound about right to you guys, anything else different then whats in the manual that I have to do?

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Here are some shots of my P-51's FA-56GK "break-in". I basically followed the manual and the task went just fine. As you see, I chose to use my engine stand rather than the plane for the initial run-in...
Time: 40 Minutes.
First run: 10 min, very rich, 4000 rpm max!
Second run: 10 min, 1/8 turn-lean (from your first setting), 6000 rpm max.
Third run: 10 min, 1/8 turn-lean (from your last setting), 8000 rpm max.
Final run: 10min, 1/8 trun-lean (from your last setting), full throttle or at least 10,000 rpm, continue "leaning" until engine reaches its "peak" then 1/8 turn rich to finish!
If you follow these basic guidelines as well as paying attention to your new engines "Owners Manual", you'll have an engine that will give you many long hours of great flying with a minium of problems! [8D]

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I've an 82 on the way. When running at 4000 rpm for the fisrt 10 minutes, is this at full throttle super rich? Or is it throttled back a bit? Will an APC 13x6 be enough for bench break in?
Thanks, MikeB

MikeB,
Yes, the 13x6 will be enough for break in.
No, 4000 RPM is with only a small amount of throttle. I usually set mine close by looking at the carb barrel before cranking the first time. You can get it pretty close by eyeballing it. I always have a tach nearby so I can set it at 4000 or less right away.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Any idea what is a good prop for a Saito FA-150 Hemi??? It seems to me it only likes Graupner G-Sonic 15x8.!?!?!?!?!?
I run 10% nitro with 18% oil (3% Klotz techniplate). I bought the engine for acrobatics on a Giles model...
On any bigger prop it run hot, and any smaller it idles badly, any idea ????

The instructions say 1/4 to 1/3 open, if you run it at full throttle and richened down to 4,000 it will blow lots of wasted fuel into the weeds and run so cold no break in will happen.

That's mighty fine, just having a little fun one day, I flipped my whole PSP test stand over and ran a Saito .80 with a Fox Miracle plug in it. It ran exactly the same as upright. APC 14x6.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
HELP! I HAVE 2 SAITO 100'S THAT NEED CRANKSHAFTS AND RODS BUT ADVANTAGE HOBBY CANT GET THEM AS THEY ARE BACKORDERED AND THE PROJECTED TIME IS SEPT. 18 ALSO NEED A CAM FOR ONE OF THEM. DOES ANYONE OUT THERE HAVE ANY OF THESE PARTS. ONE OF THESE WAS A VERY LOW TIME ENG AND I KNOW IT WAS TAKEN GOOD CARE OF. NO CRASHES AND AFTER RUN OIL ALWAYS USED. IT WAS SENT BACK FOR WARRANTEE AND IT WAS RETURNED AFTER TEAR DOWN WITH A NOTE THAT THE ENG WARRANTEE WAS VOID BECAUSE THEY SAID IT WAS FULL OF RUST AND THERE WAS SO MUCH DAMAGE THAT IT WAS NEEDING TOO MUCH TO RESTORE IT. I HAVE EVERYTHING I NEED TO FIX THESE OTHER THAN THE ABOVE MENTIONED PARTS. I WOULD BE HAPPY TO REPLACE THE PARTS WHEN THE BACKORDER COMES IN. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS AS TO WHY THESE ENGS ARE EATING THEMSELVES UP? THANKS

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I have a 16/8 on mine and runs great on a Powerline Edge . I would maybe try that and richen the topend a little for better cooling. I have not had any problems with the 16 8 and thats the recommended prop for the 150 ..

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I know now what was wrong, it was installed inverted, and center tank was located over needle valve, so it was flooding the whole time...I have installed a Tettra bubble less tank instead, and now the idle, transition and high end is much better....I will try a 16x6 next time, tx

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
The old 100T's had a air pump driven off the intake lobe of the right cam.
It's intended purpose was to pump air into the crankcase.
This pump is discontinued and you cannot get parts for it except the check valves.
It could be used to pressurize a tank but you would need to run a bleed off set up with it and a Cline regulator.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
This seems to be the only flexible exhaust that will fit my Saito100, but it has no pressure tap, do you know of one that does have a pressure tap and will fit my engine?

The 170 has '56' cylinders but the exhaust are 12mm. They adapt to the 56 cylinder with an adapter nut but will fit the 100 as the are.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Hey guys.
I ran my 5th and 6th 16 ounce tank through my new 1.25 yesterday at the recommended rich settings.
Today I leaned it out to get ready to fly.
Here's what I've got, so tell me what you think.
APC 16.5 x 5w prop.
15% Coolpower fuel.
I leaned the engine to peak RPM which was about 9600. I then backed off to about 93-9400 rpm's
After that, I leaned the low end until it wouldn't idle, and died. Then I backed off about 1/4 of a turn.
After I got my idle and transition back, I had to lean the top end a tad more.
In the end I got a reliable idle of 2200 rpm's, and 93-9400 rpm's on the high end with perfect transition, and lots of smoke.
I let the engine idle for a good 10 minutes with no problems.
So, is this a good setting for my new 1.25?
I have it on the new QQ 69" Yak. Finished weight is 8 1/4 pounds.
I'm hoping for a maiden flight this weekend if the weather is good.
Chris
