For my next project I have been eyeballing the Tsunami as offered
by Juno RC. I was hoping to get one of the new Tsunami 60s but
they dont appear to be available yet and inquiries to Juno have not
been answered.

So I was thinkiing of settling for the 40.

Id like to hear from anyone that has built the Juno Kit.
Also from anyone that has built the Direct Connection
Tsunami as they are the same.

Also interested in what you powered yours with and what
kind of results you got. I want it to be fast but within a limited
budget. That rules out things like Jett.

I built de DC Tsunami 4 or 5 years back, and I still have it, it's a nice, light plane, very fast with a .46, tracks like a missile and performs smooth maneuvers, but it's not a beginners kit, lots of sanding and not interlocking pieces. That said, it's a very nice sport-pattern plane. [8D]

Thanks for the response...not looking for a beginners kit. Last project was
a scratchbuilt Ultra Sport 60. Very fast with a 46? Hmm...I was thinking
about a Magnum XLS52. Maybe the 52 is too much motor for this?

If you can keep the crankshaft together the SK. 50 produces around 1.5hp output and
a practical rpm of around 13,000 with an 11x6 prop, and at a low price of $59. I havn't really read anything negative about the SK 50. I am sure a Mag 52XLS might produce a little oomph, but it is also $30 more. If the bolt pattern is the same, you may even be able to get a little more oomph with a Tower Muffler mounted on the SK 50. It also appears that Kankge is going to stand by the warranty on my 90, so if the 50 craps out within the next couple years at least you know there is a good chance that they will honor there warranty. Like I said, I am sure there are alot better choices if money were no object, but might be something to consider to save a few bucks.

Excellent budget combination for this plane ......

Thunder Tiger .46 pro
Jett's jett-stream muffler
APC 9x7, 9x8, 10x6 recommended.

Very quick, affordable, reliable combination.

Magnum .52 configured the same way is also worth considering.

I flew the Tsunami planes years ago. Excellent design. Smooth, straight. The newer Juno kits are all very well prepared.

I do know that Derek is working on the Tsunami .60. But it is a bit behind in development yet. Do not expect it until winter time.

Thanks for the info. I have used TT46s with the Tower mufflers
on a Bridi Kaos and a Sig Kougar. Used APC 10 X 7s with success.
The Kougar now has a very strong GMS 47 on it.

I was considering the Mag 52 since I can get one in a trade
for a few heli parts.

Looks like any of these would work out OK.

Note that I did receive an email from Juno this morning
saying that the Tsunami 60 would be delayed but that the
40s are in stock. Looks like thats the way Im going.

Yes, XTOL, I think the Magnum XLS 52 is a bit too much, believe me, it's a very light and clean design, a strong .46 is more than enough for it.

I also was/am waiting on a 60 size Tsumani and had emailed Derek and was told winter or later to next year. The 40 size is nice like others said, smooth and can be fast, i had an os sf 46 in mine and a 10-7 and it was fun to say the least. They do build light, and if i do another i will put in retracts.

If you are careful when building, the Tsunami 40 should only be about 4.5 pounds when finished. Mine is about 4 pounds.....flight ready (fixed gear). I have a Webra 50 on it. This is a good combination. Remember, the Tsunami 40 is designed for aerobatics first..........speed second. If you are using anything over a 45 (or any other hot-rod engine)........you MUST reinforce the tail/fuselage interface with some scrap 3/8" tri-stock. This is explained in the instructions. Best of luck. Order one today!!

On the Tsunami 60. Here is an update. I have finished all but one, or two of the production jigs. I hope to finish all the jigs and tooling by the end of September. Starting in October, I plan to start building a prototype (i.e. writing the instructions). The last major hang up is finding a vendor for forming canopies. I am searching for a new vendor. Anybody out ther interested? This has proven to be a real pain in the rump. I had truly intended to have the darn thing finished and in production by now, but this summer was a KILLER at work (my regular job). I was putting in too many hours to count.

This year has been the best in Juno's short history. This is good and bad. Good for sales, bad for doing other things (like getting the Tsunami 60 out). I have 4-5 others in line to come online someday. I have a few surprises. I hope all will enjoy them.

Looks like the consensus is a good 46. Thats good since I have
several likely candidates at hand. Either a TT46, GMS 47, or
a well used OS 46 SF. All are good runners.

Well maybe not today but next week for sure...

I'm a little more than half-way through my Juno Tsunami. I have the fuse, tail feathers and one wing panel complete. I had to take a break to rebuid my Raptor 90[].

So far, it has been a pleasure to build. Excellent wood quality and parts fit. It takes some carving and shaping, but the results have been outstanding.

I'm planning on an OS .46FX with an UltraThrust muffler. So far it seems like a very lightweight plane. That, coupled with the generous (but thin) wing, makes me think it won't need a lot of power to fly very well.

I know this thread is over 13 years old but am wondering if anybody is flying the Tsunami or even if the 60 kit ever made it to production?

I found one near me via CL, got it for $20, completed but, it needs new covering as the old one is brittle.

That was like 3 years ago, I still have it and will get it ready to fly again in a few months ( way too many projects at the same time )

Here I am, some 13 years later...getting back into flying. As far as I know the 60 never hit production. Derek ended up overseas and I did talk to him a few times. I have been going through things stored away and I hope to find wing ribs traced to the tsunami wing. Means I can scratch one. Anyway I do have an f-20 built and a new in box. If any one has those rib outlines I would love a copy
