RCFREEK -> knife edge pitching (3/28/2004 2:21 PM)

I'm flying a zen 50 with an OS 50 SX. The rt thrust was about 2 degs built into the fuse so i didnt alter it. I had to add 2 shims to give it down thrust, which amounts to about 1--1.5 degs. The problem is that when i do a knife edge with left aileron n right rudder, the plane pitches to the belly quite a bit n rolls right simultaneously. Whereas, in knife edge with rt aileron n left rudder it pitches slightly to the belly but doesnt roll. What could be the problem? I've tried mixing but would want to keep it as a last resort. how do i fix it?

either a CG adjustment or a mix should help depending on how serious it is.
Also, are you absolutely sure you arent 'leaning" on the sticks while in knife edge? That is to say accidentally giving a tiny bit of down elevator input while on KE. It is very easy to do without even realizing it and it can cause your problem.

To verify that you CG is in the right make sure your plane is trimmed for hands off level flight.
Once thats done roll inverted. You should have to give just a touch of down elevator to fly level if the CG is right for pattern. Too much down elevator your are probably nose heavy, if the plane climbs hands off inverted then you are probably tailheavy. At least thats what I was taught to correct your problem and it works well on my planes.
