Kelly,

You're right, I thought those folks were friends of someone's and had permission to be there. I usually tell spectators to stay back. Sometimes they want to come around and check a plane out, that's ok when escorted. And yes the grand poobah was there so he has safety control duties. I think I had just stopped by from work ? I do not recall being there to fly.

In your case, since it seems there is some ill feelings here.

A) As a flight Instructor, the student's aircraft should not have been in the student's control as soon as it crossed the pit line. That is the mistake you made.

B) The fact that some members and the FSM were laughing at a serious situation in front of those spectators and other members was not a good image to portray and now may think that this kind of thing is normal and ok to let happen.

C) I do not think you should be punished. It was a mistake and those happen. I do not think the FSM or myself should have barbequed your ass either. I could see that you were concerned but others were not. I think a more serious tone to the situation would have been better.

As an after the fact we can look back and laugh, thankfully no one was hurt. Sure beats looking back and crying.

Do to my lack of ability to identify and do my job. I hereby withdraw from my position as a Safety Marshall. Done deal, don't want it, I can see the direction we are heading and it stirs up memories of the past.

I've lobbied for those signs for about three years now, never gets anywhere. I would pay for them myself if I could afford it.

No ill feeling at all, I was just using it as an example since we were
both there that night.

point A:
I agree it was totally my fault the plane got so far out of line.

point B:
I think everyone was just shocked that I was able to keep the plane flying.
(all skill by the way)

point C:
I agree, but not about the Grand Poohba comment, is there any way you
and Keith can talk over your differences and bury the hatched (not in each
others heads)?

I don't know about the past, only been here for a year.

As for you withdrawing as safety officer... that is a personal decision you
have to make, however it was not my intent in pointing out the discrepancy
and I would hope you will reconsider.

I will stand by you 100% for the signs, I have never heard it mentioned.
A great example was the fly in... the signs did there job, with little to no
involvement from us.

Another plus to the signs is that anyone in the club can just point them out
to spectators without needing backup.

Anyway, I am dropping this all together, I just want to fly and let everyone else
fly. I hate politics, and I did not join the club to make enemies. Everyone has
been great to me since I have joined and I hope it stay's that way.

Like Lee said, lets post the funny crap and forget this junk.

I post pictures and you started back with the politics buddy !

As for Keith and myself, the only problem must be over there because I have not said anything of a problem. Keith and I have had a round or two at each other, prefer not to make it a third for nothing. I just did not like the way that event was handled. But it's over and done.

Now let's go get the heli pilot in question and burn him at the stake and all will be well and cheery again.

Now, I am making the deal on my Mustang D model even more appealing ! Here it is:

H9 P-51 1.50 glassed ready for paint, you saw it at the cookout.
Robart retracts with scale type struts
RCS 1.80 gasser w/ B+B muffler, flies this plane fantastic.

and a Concept 30 Helicopter ready to fly with JR TX.

All for $800.00, how can anyone resist that ? Especially the helicopter ? No deals, that price is firm.

Man, you're pretty smart when you wanna be Chriswhousetoflyalot ! You know you caused him to crash in the parking lot. You just look like the type, regardless of what channel you are on.

How about this, night time sky equipped flying on snow ! Yeah baby !

Why stop there? Night time equipped, snow ready, full contact combat! Now that's a night out!
Add a few wenches and a dozen pints or so of Guinness (for the spectators, of course) and you got a real event going now!

PS: OOPS, now i've said it! Maybe I should have checked first but are we allowed to even joke about drinking beer here in the FSA Clubhouse or does that too have the look of impropriety?

AHHH, now while we're sitting here enjoying our malties can anyone answer me this...

I'm mounting the motor on my new eclectic Extra and I heard somewhere (I think) that the ESC's have to be programmed for use. I got no instructions with mine (jeti -8) so I don't know what to do with it. The ESC doesn't look fancy and there's no switches on the thing to program from so do I just plug it into the receiver and go fly or do I have to do something else first? Also I heard that you plug the battery into the ESC and then plug the ESC into the receiver (which slot?) in that order. Is any of this right or, like usual, have I just been listening through a beer induced haze?

Usually I'd be daring enough to just try it 'til I get it right but with a Li-Po in the loop I'm a bit timid. This scarecrow hates FIRE!

Hey Mike, I can only talk about the Castle controllers, but they have a real funky way to program them with your throttle. I purchased a USB cable and downloaded some software that allows me to do it from my computer. Real easy, real quick. But since you are not computer savy, here is a link that may help you

Yeah, I'm also running a Castle (Phoenix) controller and am not familiar with the Jeti so am afraid to offer any advice. You've probably already googled an answer by now -- there's a manual to almost everything on the web somewhere...... I think I saw somewhere where you may need another hardware device to program it completely.

But advise not to jump into it if you have no documentation or clue. At the very least you need to be assured that the thing is programmed for the right cut-off voltage for your particular number of lipo's in series, else the lipo's could be ruined (and become dangerous) if they are drained below that voltage point (approx 9.0v for a 3S configuration).

My Phoenix is programmed with a kinda goofy dialogue -- a set of throttle movements answered by various chirps from the thing. Takes just a few minutes to figure out and then it will kinda be good forever unless you change something major.

Generally, the controller should have lead(s) which attach to the battery AND the motor AND the rx (normally the "engine" channel which is #1 in my case.)

Welcome aboard. The electric guys are usually slinking around trying to stay out of everyones way so it will be good to have a stud among us.

-- Mike

Edit: You didn't say whether you are running a brushless motor -- if so, that Jeti had better be a brushless compatible ESC, otherwise it won't work at all.

My Jeti came with programming instructions, but I also bought the little card you use to program it. It has its own set of instructions. I suggest getting one so you can program brake, timing, throttle curve, battery type and cutoff voltage, hard or soft cutoff. Apparently it auto-senses the number of cells.

Mine comes with the switch, so I don't know the non-switch plug-in procedure, but don't most (if not all) ESC's stay plugged into the receiver?

Screw it, put a stinkin' gas hog on the end of it and be done !

Lousy electrics, gotta be rocket scientist to fly one of those contraptions......

And really what's wrong with a beer induced haze ?

Mike,

What gasoline engine would you recommend for that 120-four-stroke sized Reed Falcon? It might be my transition to gas (if I build it).

DD- Thanks for the link but do you really dislike me that much? Modes, frequencies, breaks, cutoff voltages, two beeps, four beeps, etc......STOP! My hair hurts! Gimme the duct tape, my head is gonna explode! If only I had laid off the Guiness a few years sooner I probably would still have the synap where all that stuff connects and makes sense. But that's waaaay more than I need to know and my eyes glazed over on the first paragraph. Whew!.........Maybe I'll try again tomorrow.

Mike- I know I can do this. I know I can, I know I can, I Kn......(stay with me here.......)

Spit - Maybe yours is the sagest advice of 'em all and I should stick to what comes easy. Like taking GAS!

Jay- You're right too a mind is a terrible thing to waste. NA is the way to go!

Seriously guys thanks for the help. It's said that God protects babies, idiots and drunks. Since I'm at least one of those maybe I'll get it right before I burn the house down. I gonna do this though (at least once!). I think....................
