Default Carl Goldberg 67" Edge 540 ARF

I havent seen a thread on this yet,so maybe people that have interest in buying or are building one,can post their experiences here.I have no idea where to buy them or if and when they will be available. It will probably sell for around 350$ Canadian.
I have an OS 120 that needs a home, and a 67" aerobat is probably a good size airframe for it.
To keep this thread easy to follow please only post directly related material to the build ,performance ,pros and cons etc.

At $379.99, not to many are being sold I would amagine. For over $100.00 less you can buy the Seagull Edge 540 or the Skyshark Edge 540 that is the same size. Both are good quallty ARF's. I have the Skyshark Edge 540 and have seen the Seagull Edge 540 and it's really good looking.

Well, maybe I am foolish but I bought one of these today. I have a Saito 120 that needed a home and I had reciever and servos on hand. The quality is excellent and the covering is flawless. Color scheme is different so it won't look like every other Edge out there in this size. Won't be able to start for a while as I have other projects to finish.

Will update when I start my build,

Foolish, no. Not wanting to pay that much for an ARF is just my own personal thoughts. I guess I'm more of a bargin hunter. The way I see it, If you like what you bought and your satisfied then you got one hell of a deal.

Lets forget about the price, 379$ is way up there, but then there are a few ARF's that are in that range, maybe they'll come more into line later..
So I'd like some responses on the build and days at the field.Should be a fun bird with a 90 + 2 stroke
or 110+ 4 stroker. If she came out at 9 or less pounds it may be performer for its size

Yeah I've been thinking about this plane, tower has had it in stock for a while, is it just because it's ugly that no one has it yet?

It's size and features are exactly what I've been looking for. I like the 2 piece wing and that a 1.20 is on the high end of the power range.

But the color is.... well, not great.

The price is also a bit more than I'd like, I mean that is what the H9 27% Extra 260 cost!

I'm kind of thinking... ehhh just buy it... but then I think if I buy it at that price, it tells the mfg I'm willing to pay $400 for a .60 size plane which really I don't think is justified. It doesn't really have anything that is that much better than other planes at half it's price. The $220 Funtana X 100 comes to mind.

Sooo... I dunno.. I need a home for my YS 1.20!

I cant get one unless I buy from the US.By the time it gets here it will be of phenomenal cost..I like the trim and I really like the size.Maybe I'll wait. Why is there such a shortage of 63- 68 inch unlimited performance ARF's?

Well, I finished my Edge last night and went to the field this afternoon. At first I was just going to run the Saito 120 and finish dialing in my radio. The wind was blowing about 12 mph across the runway. Everything was running great, so I decided to make the maiden flight. Roll out was about 30 ft, a little up elevator and it gently took to the sky. Couple of passes to trim, a little right, a little down and it was flying straight and level. I have it balanced at 3 15/16" from the leading edge, right at the middle of the specs. Because I used a Hangar 9 adjustable motor mount I had to put the battery about 2/3 back in the tail, I made a hatch for access. I am using JR Sport 125 MG sevos on the ailerons, Futaba 9402's on the elevator and rudder, an a Futaba BB for the throttle. This plane is definately worth the extra money. Fit and finish is excellent and it flys great too. I only made 1 flight so I will keep you posted.

do you think a 31cc gas motor would work in this plane?

Airframe is not built for a gasser in my opinion. Too many ponies.

Putting a gasser in this is just silly, way too small for that.I'd still like one,now they have also come out with a 67" Yak?.Perfect birds for 90-120"s

Anybody got some updated info on this plane? Pics ? How it flys? I realize that the price maybe the limiting factor but surely more than 1 guy has bought one of these and has it flying.

thx Dave

hi- dlevett just maiden my 540 last week - flys great - it is a keeper - i have about 6 flights on it - using os 120 - has more then enough power - the plane is over priced by $65.00 to $75.00 - it is the size i was looking for - so i got it - i will say i'am glad i did - i did some beefing up in some aeras - the gear aera , the engine box , and sides of the fuse from the engine box to the wing tube aera - plane came in about 9 1/2 # - so i give this 540 a big thums up - goldberg is coming out with a 67 " yak 54 this summer - think i will go for that yak too - good luck to ya - bill wrcflyer

I have the Segull Edge and paid $174.99. I am running a Magnum 1.20 and am very happy with it. I wonder what difference there is in quality. Quite a price jump. I paid $399 for a 87 inch Giant scale Extra. If you look at the Evolution 25cc gasser, you can put this into the bird. A 35cc would be too much.

glad to hear you guys saying good things about the goldberg edge..and happy to learn that a 120 will handle the plane with good power.can you define the power with a 120?meaning are the aerobatics tight .I think I am trying to ask will the 120 lug it around the sky or fly with authority..

thanks ..I was looking at that and wondered if a strong 120 was a good match.figured that a lighter engine translates to a better performance.I am not a diehard 3d flyer .that I save for my funtana and electrics.I love doing aerobatics.what about vertical??does it climb well?

I know Goldberg makes very nice planes. I have their Tiger 60 and their 120 Sukhoi. i took a chance on the Seagull and it is fine. You have a great bird. I just maidened my Lanier 87 inch Edge 540 this weekend. The Edge design is so sweet and stable. Have fun.

Anybody try 3D with it? I have a YS 1.20 looking for a home... I'm really trying hard to like this plane. How about some pics of someone's setup?
