I was thinking of getting one, but wanted to ask, how well it can fly in windy conditions, like up to how many MPH wind before it gets blown away?

I just got mine via FedEx today,

You guy's are scaring with me the glitches. I'm planning to give her a maiden voyage this weekend.
I'll make sure to keep some space between the plane and the ground until I'm sure there are no glitches.
I'll post back to the thread to let ya'll know how it goes...

Wish me luck,

Mike

Honetly by my experiences... The wind is a probleme i dont like to fly in it... Unless it is the glitches that is toying with my plane in the air, this plane gets poushed arrouned alot in the air by the wind... It does not like to glide at all so keap your speed up while your landing and flying low to the ground...
I wish you all the best of luck... I sure havent had any but im up and flying again after that nasty spill on a rock... Kepp posting...

Just got a Typhoon 2 . Which prop is everyone using. There were two different props in the box (larger for speed(lipo)-smaller for 3D)

I'm using the larger prop to start off with, I believe that it is the "slower" of the two...

So far so good on my maiden flight... I'm starting to get the hang of the ailerons.
One quick question though... What is the best way to land this bird? My first attempt was trying to glide her in nice and easy but that did not seem to work to well for me. My second attempt was about a 1/4 throttle landing which was faster but less "drastic" contact upon touchdown. Any tip's would be greatly appreciated !!!

I'm new to this thread. I've had the typhoon2 for a while. From the beginning, the rudder servo was bad. It shimmied. Horizon replaced with a JR. They did not have a duplicate of the original. In the last couple of days I lost both servos for the ailerons. They just died. I replaced both with analog Hitec 55's. I guess there is still a problem with the typhoon2 servos. Jim

If you try to glide it in, it will "flop" to the ground when you least expect it -- not a pretty landing.
I usually let it glide in on the approach and when it's about 4 or 5 feet off the ground, I give it a little power until it levels off. Then, I just start reducing power for a soft landing. A little flaring at the end will give you a 3-point landing.
On windy days, I increase the power for a faster landing keeping better control over the Typhoon.

I got my 'phoon2 together, and I am nothing but extremely disappointed in it. The elevator slot/support skews the elevator on one side nearly a half-inch lower than the other side. Pathetic alignment, that I will have to redo before first flight. One aileron gap is nearly twice as wide as the other; another pathetic factory screw-up. I'm going to seal the hinge gaps, and not try to fix it. The wings are shrink-covered with white wrapping, but the decals are applied over the white shrink covering, and both wing decals, top and bottom, are bunched-up, giving the plane a "cheap" look.

If the developers of the 'phoon2 had put more time into quality control issues, instead of zoom-zoom upgrades like shrink-wrapped wings and digital servos, I'd be a helluva lot happier than I am right now.

This is the 3rd 'phoon that I have purchased, and likely will be my last. The quality control issues on my 'phoon are inexcusable.

Buyer, beware!

Charles

Greetings...

I am not only new to the Typhoon 2 3D, but Li-Po's as well. I have been flying with Ni-Mh batteries, and charging them using an AC Adaptor that accepts the Cigarette Lighter Plug on the Charger. I prefer not to charge my batteries in the car.

However, my AC Adaptor is limited to 12v 1a Output, and I apparently need a 12v 3a output for the Li-Po charger. I would appreciate knowing what devices I need to charge the Li-Po battery, using the Charger that came with the T-2 3D, other than the cigarette lighter in my car.

Thanks,
Fred

I use a 15 foot, fused #8 extension with alligator leads at the battery end, and banana plugs at the distribution station end. I may charge up to 8 batteries at once, I have charged 6 at once, with 6 chargers connected to my distribution station. The extension is connected to the vehicle battery terminals, and my flight/charge box is about 15 feet away from the vehicle then. I have 8 cigarette lighter sockets wired to the power distribution station.

I wouldn't charge lipos inside my vehicle either. Just an accident begging to happen.

I also use a computer power supply capable of 19 amps @ 12 volts in the garage, to charge up to 5 batteries at once. I have 4 other computer power supplies, of less amperage, doing other chores as well, and yes, I'm in the garage while the batteries are charging!

Greetings, Charles...

Thanks for sharing your set-up with me. I was hoping I could find something like I use for my Ni-Mh batteries, but looks like the best place for me to be charging the Li-Po's is "Out In The Garage".

The "Alligator Clip: 12V Lighter Adapter" is out of stock at the moment, but looks like what I need for a simple one battery set-up.

Thanks again,

I use an old self-contained, battery operated, unit used mainly to inflate auto tires on the road, in case of a flat. It has a cigarette lighter input where I plug the Typhoon battery charger. It works great for two good rechargings, then I have to plug the unit onto a wall AC outlet to charge the internal battery. If I leave the unit plugged in while charging the Typhoon battery, it stays fully charged throughout the whole process.

Greetings, Jmir...

Outstanding!!! I guess my Alzheimer's is acting up again.

I have one of those Self Contained Batterie Packs, complete with cigarette lighter receptical, that I use to power my GPS when flying the "BIG" Cessna 172's and 182's. That will satisfy my needs perfectly.

Thanks!!!

Fred

Greetings...

I assembled my new Typhoon 2 3D and charged the battery. I put the 8 batteries in the Tx and the Li-Po battery in the model. I got the one long beep, followed by three mid length tones. I then went to the Tx all ready to see some movement of the model's controls surfaces and maybe even a little Motor Noise..."NOTHING". The Tx has no effect on the model.

I called Horizon Hobby Technical Support. They informed me that the inputs from the Tx were not reaching the Rx. Wow!!! What a revelation!!!

I checked all the connections and reseated the Crystals in both the Tx & Rx.

Since I did not like the prospect of sending the entire T-2 3D back to Horizon, I decided to ignore the instructions and just try various combinations of hook-up positions.

The first thing I discovered is that if I moved ALL OF THE SERVO REVERSING SWITCHES to the BOTTOM, I could get some communication with the Model. I also turned all of the wires around so that the Orange wires and one White wire were closest to the nomenclature markings (Thro, Ail, Ele, etc.). Originally the Brown wires were closest to the nomenclature.

Now everything appears to be working and in the correct direction, except for the Rudder Servo. It is DEAD. Other wires placed in the Rudder position in the Rx received power, so the RX appears OK.

I am new to this hobby, as mentioned previously. When I looked at the Replacement Servo (P/N PKZ1090), it does not look like what I see when I look at the T-2 3D. Is there some kind of "KEEPER" that holds the Servo in place, or is it just pushed in or possibly held in with some kind of adhesive? If it is a "Keeper", what is the best way to remove the "Keeper" without damaging the FOAM, and then reinstall it following the replacement of the servo?

http://www.parkzone.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=PKZ1090

I would appreciate any experiences and suggestions you might have that sound even similar to my situation.

Thanks,
Fred

Greetings...

Thanks, Karl Thomas.

I have a new servo on the way, but was afraid I would somehow damage the model in removing what I call the Keeper. They are metal Arrow Shaped devices at both ends of the servo. There are no screws visible. I suspect I simply pull out the Keeper and then look for the screws you mentioned.

Thanks again,
Fred

oh yes sorry they are not held in my srews i was thinking of a diffrent model if this is the same as yours then yes just pull it out but you must glue it in the foam safe glue or it may fall out, but thats the same as my typhoon 1 so its ok to pull it out

Greetings...

Thanks for your update, Karl Thomas.

Sorry about my nomenclature (Keepers), but we are now on the same page.

I appreciate your taking the time to take and send the picture.

Thanks again,
Fred

P.S. Are you using the Stock Battery Charger? Mine starts out just fine, but about 40 minutes into the charging cycle, I get the red and green "ALTERNATING". The instructions say that is an "ERROR". I don't know if I have a bad charger or a battery problem. My volt meter indicates the battery is close to 12 volts, so not sure what to make of the fact that I never get a Solid Green Light.

I had the same problem with my stock charger. It worked for a while. Now, I get the "alternating" blinking and never get a steady green light. When I check the battery with my other charger, it appears to be fully charged.

I decided to quit using the stock charger and I'm using a Hobico charger instead. I purchased one of those balancing devices that I place between charger and battery to charge cells individually so the pack is properly balanced during the charging session. This works great.

Greetings...

Thanks, Jmir. That is really good news. I think it is charged, per my volt meter, but I do not like the idea of the Alternating Red & Green.

I will replace the stock charger as soon as possible.

Thanks again,
Fred

P.S. I made one more desperation call to Horizon Product Support today, before possibly packing up the charger and battery and returning them to Horizon to check out.

The technician did a little bit of heeing and hawwing, but finally suggested that I try charging at 1.0 A instead of the suggested 1.5 A.

That gave me the idea of using my wall powered cigarette lighter receptacle, which is limited to a maximum of 1.0 A. I had been using the car battery as a power source. I hooked up the stock charger and battery to the cigarette lighter receptacle, and within ten minutes I finally got the much sought after "SOLID GREEN LIGHT".

Thanks for the info! I will try this next time I charge the battery. Hope it works for me. I can then keep the Horizon charger in the car and use it in the field.

From the sound of it, the Typhoon 2 has some major quality control issues. I was thinking about buying an RTF kit pretty soon. I don't have any movable equipment so the ARF would cost a lot more to get going and it seems that the ARF + cost of battery is as much as the RTF kit which comes with a battery so even if I did buy a new radio it would still be better to get the RTF, at least to start out.

But, would you guys recommend steering clear of the Typhoon 2? If so then what type of plane would you recommend that is similar? I've been looking at the Great Planes Yak-55 too but like the looks of the Typhoon 2 better and the Yak-55 is only ARF and I don't particularly want to buy all the other high-end components at the moment. I'd really like to get a decent RTF plane that I can later swap better parts in to.
