Default trex 450, hbk2 interchangeability ?

What parts (if any) could i use from a trex 450 to fit on my honey bee king 2. Only reason im asking is because my LHS only sells Align heli's. So if i could use parts from them i wont have to wait for shipping.

The canopies fit, the tail blades will if you fit them, and a guy on here fit a swash. O' and the landing gear will fit. I'm using some blades with spacers , a bit long but work.

never tried the blades seemed a bit long found the venom blades were better in size but had have washers on each side to make it fit.i know the trex landing gear will work they actually hold up much better than the stock gear.stock up on main chassis they seem to break at the motor mount every crash lol

my hbk2 brushless flys pretty good with tail belt mods and trex t/r blades...i have a set of hardened spindles which i haven't used yet...fwiw, on another forum, dr. roo (who posted a very nice mild 3d vid taken by his wife) gave some tips for using the trex spindle on the stock hbk2 head...i bought the parts from heliproz, but haven't tried them yet...fwiw, here's the info:

HBK2 Spindle Mod (Dr Roo)

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...o+ring+spindle

Product Code: HS1003 Name: Feathering Shaft HS1003
Main Category: Helicopter Parts Sub Category: T-Rex 450S Parts Option Price: AUD$8.00 Package Weight: 20 g
â—Feathering Shaft X 3

Product Code: HS1186 Name: O-Ring HS1186
Main Category: Helicopter Parts Sub Category: T-Rex 450S Parts Option Price: AUD$2.80 Package Weight: 20 g
Specification:
â—O-Ring (Φ3XΦ6.5X2mm) x 4

Product Code: HS1195 Name: Main Blade Screws HS1195
Main Category: Helicopter Parts Sub Category: T-Rex 450S Parts Option Price: AUD$2.80 Package Weight: 20 g
Specification:
â—Stainless steel socket screw (M3x14mm) x 2
â—Nut (M3) x 2
â—Socket screw (M2x5mm) x 2

Yes, simple swap. Doesn't require any other modification, and will stiffen up the head really well, so you get a much more positive response -- Makes the King feel less "mushy".

Spindle:
http://www.wattsuprc.com.au/product....asp?pid=HS1003

O-rings:
http://www.wattsuprc.com.au/product....asp?pid=HS1186

Socket head bolts:
http://www.wattsuprc.com.au/product....asp?pid=HS1195
You need the bolts that go in the spindle, which are the smaller black ones in this set. Basically, you just need to get 2 M2x5mm bolts. Remember the Loctite when you install them.

So, take out stock ESky spindle and replace with Rex spindle, put all the washers, etc., back as you would an ESky spindle except instead of 1 O-ring per side you want 2 O-rings per side.

It's that easy. You need 2 O-rings as the Rex spindle is just a bit longer than stock but as it's not 2 O-rings longer than stock it has the effect of making the head just a bit stiffer. Plus, you don't have to mess with the nuts of the ESky spindle and the Rex spindles are stronger as well.

here's a pic of the trex parts, taken with my new canon powershot sd950is...ken

EDIT: i had to rebalance my blades, so i went ahead and installed the trex spindle, o-rings, and socket-head bolts (replacing the 5.5mm self-locking nuts)...test flight went fine...kinda windy in my driveway, but stability and control tells me that this mod is a keeper...ken

Man, wish I'd known earlier that you could use the trex spindles like that. I've been waiting for weeks for someone to get the HBK2 spindle in stock and just ordered it yesterday.

Think you could use that spacer ring that comes with the trex spindles (forget exactly what it's called) instead of the extra o-rings?

Anyway, thanks for the info, I'll give it a try next time.

this hbk2 vid is a winner, according to dr. roo, who came up with the trex spindle mod...this guy does 3d with a nearly stock brushless hbk2 with wood blades and z-bends...ken

Blade 400 tail rotor blades also work well on the HBK2.

I've been using the same Trex HS1003 spindle in my stock King head since October through 3 crashes. No bend. I only use the one O-ring per side with one spacer per side. Fits and flies like it's supposed to be there. There may be 1/2mm of in/out play if you yank the grips hard enough, but my blades track like a knife and I've had no flight issues whatsoever.

I may remove the spacers and try the doubled O-ring thing, though.

I'm using the Trex spindle with 2 O-rings on each side. Works perfectly.
