The MLD 28 would work amd you would not have to add lead to the nose. If you go with the MLD post a picture.

Status: offline 		Question, Im looking to get started in Gas engines myself, and my biggest question is the battery/ignition:

1) what is the best battery to use Li-po or Ni-Cd for the ignition system?
2) how long does the battery last for the ignition, on average?
(Will I have to charge it between every flight)
3) Any suggestions/hints that you can share w/ a newbie on igition would be great.

From everything Ive read, it looks like the carb tuning and ignition are the only significant differences from Gas or glow and I really like the MLD 28. It seems to be the lightest gas engine (in its class) and has the most power (in its class) and is American made w/ a reasonable price tag. I am very interested in getting gas engine for my next plane.

Status: offline 		I suspect the MLD28 to be similar to the SPE26 in all respects except that the only difference being a new head, piston and ring. The Crankcase,prop shaft and driver ,muffler and ignition unit look similar.
Basically an overbored design.Sourcing for parts is difficult.
I stand corrected.

Sorry to tell you that is all but American made....
This doesn't mean is not a good engine. Looking to buy one myself.

Status: offline 		Will Cermark be at the WRAM Show in NY at the end of next month? The WRAM site didn't post a current list of vendors last year until very close to the show date. It would be great to see the full engine line up.

Status: offline 		Posting pictures of my MLD 28 with J'TEC wrap around Pitts Muffler SPE 26. I have used J'TEC's mufflers before and have no problems. The muffler fits the MLD 28 & SPE 26. JTECH RADIOWAVE's web site is www.jtecrc.com

We love Lou over at WRAM, but our schedule got us wrapped us backwards every tradeshow season. We were hoping that we will show up there with the DPM product as debute this year. It is not happening. The DPM project is way behind the original estimation. Hope we can help you some other way. If you out in the Jersey area, one of our sponsored pilot, Benny Chi, has one of these engine. Benny is very easy going person, you guys may know his son, Justin Chi (a very young pilot).

Status: offline 		Hello everybody and great info on this engine just not the info i'm looking for...hahaha. Has anybody put this thing in a Hanger 9 1.50 Mustang? I have one with a saito 1.80 I'd like to replace with a gasser. I've built a few gas planes lately and holy hell, much better than nitro if you ask me. I know the AUW is almost exactly the same and it will fly this plane but I do like the scale apperance with virtually no cutouts in the cowl so I am just curious how well it fits in the cowl and if any firewall mods are needed. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Status: offline 		I'm not Steve, but. I'm running an SPE 26cc, basically same ignition and requirements. I am using a 7.4 1350 mah lipo battery, and after about 8 flights, a check with a volt meter shows I have used .2 to .4 volts. You could easily go with a lighter battery, and fly all day long. A 7.4 volt 1000 or 1100 mah lipo would be ideal.

Status: offline 		i talked to steve on this very question and he highly recomemded not to use anything over 6v. he said that there was a higher failure rate going over. so a 4.8 nimh pack was best. call him very informative.

I haven't done the math but I haven't had to pack it in for a dead ignition battery yet.

Status: offline 		Can an A123 pack be used for the ignition? If 6 Volts is max I am guessing no. One of the small packs would be great if it is safe. If not is there a small simple regulator that can be used?

Status: offline 		Steve will tell you that the current ignition unit can safely and reliably handle 8 volts. Specs say up to 18 volts. There is going to be an ignition upgrade with future engines that will require a voltage regulator for batteries over 6 volts.

2. Ignition battery pack: I often forget (age factor) that people use LiPo, A123 and LiMn... We recommend using battery packs ranging from 4.8V to 8.0V. So 4, 5, 6 cell NiCD and NiMH will be fine. 2s A123, LiPo and LiMn are also fine.

Sorry to have created such confusion. I must have not remembered to have mentioned LiPo, A123 or LiMn to some of the customers who called. Thanks Jimeni for catching my error.

Status: offline 		Thanks Steve and everyone else for the replies. Follow up question if you will, what are your thoughts on battery current capasity. I will like to use a light weigh battery, but that means less current. Any mAh capasity recomendations for a 7.4V LiPo?

With stock (in box) standoffs mine is 5.25 inches. Cermark lists different length standoffs on the web site.

Web site list 5.0 inches, I have 2 MLD 28 both are 5.25 inches form the spinner backplate to the end of the standoffs.
