As most of you who have raced with me know, I have been trying to sell my Pit trailer so I can upgrade to something larger with more headroom and more wallspace. Well I finally sold it and ordered a 7x16 on Ebay.

This puppy has tons of space and I special ordered it with 6'6" ceilings. No more bumping my head when I stand up.

Much like the build thread on my previous trailer I will detail every step of the build so stay tuned. I hope to have it ready in time for the race on Jun 20.

With the lessons learned from the first one this one should be really good.

This one will be totally pimp...I actually have a budget this time around. On the last one I had to use ingeniuity and carpentry skills to make up for lack of funds and quality materials.

You're going to have this one done to the same level as the last in just 8 days and detail the build online? You're a better man than I if you can pull that off...

Looking forward to this with great anticipation,
Good Luck

Okay, let the adventure begin.....

In my last trailer I used framed pegboard on the walls, and I ran the electrical wires behind the peg board. This time around I'm using Slatboard which will be directly screwed into the walls. So I'm going to run the wires above the slat board and build a crown lightbridge on both sides to cover the wires and screw the lights and outlets onto the lightbridges to maintain a professional appearance. Here I'am clamping a 1x2 to a 1x6 so I line up the hinges. The 1x6s cost about $5 and the 1x2s cost around $3 and I brought 4 of each so the wood ran me about $40 bucks.

I'm going to connect the wood with hinges so I can swing the lightbridges down to make light installation easier. To save money I got two 24 in door hinges at $7 a pop and cut them up into 4 in sections.  Remember kids, safety first! Always use eye protection!

Here is the first lightbridge with hinges attached. The gameplan is to screw the 1x2s into the wall and screw the 1x6s into the metal rails in the ceiling at a 45 degree angle so that the lights will shine directly on the countertop giving me better visbility.

Installing the first set of lightbridges into the left wall.

Left wall is done, now starting on the right wall.

Both sides are up, and the fit is good. Now it's time to sprinkle some pimp juice on this sucka

To amp up the bling factor, I'm covering the lightbridges with aluminum flashing. The flashing runs about $24 for a 10" x 50' roll. I'm a huge fan of aluminum. It's the poor man's stainless steel.

The aluminum flashing is extremely thin and very easy to cut with metal shears. Once I cover all four lightbridges, I will reinstall them and prep for electrical.

Excellent!

Left side looks good. Very pimpish...very pimpish

Right side looks good.  So far so good

My goal was to have it ready for my next race on June 20, but that may not happen. Some of the stuff I special ordered won't arrive until Jun 19 and my next infusion of cash doesn't happen until Jun 19  so I will be about 90% done but probably not in time to race on the 20th.

Seeing as how electrical is not my strong suit, my Dad is donating his time and expertise to run the electrical for me

I'm running the main power line the same way that I did on my last trailer. I'm running 6ft of 10 guage wire through the floor and out the front of the trailer where I can plug into my generator

I'm running a standard 6 circuit 20 amp breaker box that runs about $20

The breaker box will be mounted under the side counter where I can reach it easily

Now on to the outlets. I'm installing three 48in flourescent lights on each side and in between the lights will be two overhead outlets. Here my Dad is marking the holes that will need to be cut to fit the outlet boxes

I'm glad that I put those hinges on the lightbridges. Makes it a snap to cut out the holes for the outlets

Using the jigsaw to cut out the holes on the right....

While my Dad is running the wires from the breaker box to the spot where the lights and outlets will be located on the left

Almost done with the wiring

The outlets are a good fit, but I didn't buy enough outlet boxes so I'm about four short. Will have to get some more tommorrow. The lightbridges are doing what they're supposed to do. Right side looks good

Test for fit on the left and we're good to go!

We're gone as far as we can with electrical so I'm going to start dry fitting the Slatwall. I went with Slatwall instead of Pegboard because it has more flexibility and looks better. The sheets are covered in brushed aluminun laminate and cost about $44 a sheet. I needed five sheets to cover the interior. The brushed aluminum finish looks hot, but each sheet weighs 85lbs!!

Got the left up and now working on the right

Oh Oh...trouble. The front of the trailer has a curve that the Slatwall is not flexible enough to bend and attach to the wall. Add to that, the original design was a V-nose that would accomindate the Slatboard way easier. I guess I better figure out how to get pass this

Okay, I figured it out. I'm going to insert a 12 in encasement in the middle of the front wall and frame some 1x4 on both sides to level out the front wall. The encasement will also contain the light switch, a four plug outlet for the air conditioner and stereo, as well as conceal the wiring coming up from the junction box...BRILLANT!!!

I'm ripping a 1x4 into 2 in strips to nail into the ends of the 1x12 that will be bolted directly into the wall. The plan is to nail another 1x12 on top of the 1x2 to form a hollow encasement to enable the electrical to run through it

I need to measure the center point of the wall So I can figure out the width of the slat board once I cut it into two pieces. Both pieces need to be about 34 in

Okay I've secure the back wall of the encasement and now I'm putting up 1x4s to frame and support the slat board starting with the left side

Doing the right side

I took the Slatboard and measured 12 in down the center and cut it into two pieces

I nailed up some 2x4 blocks to support the slatboard while I'm positioning it. Even a 1/4 piece of this stuff is heavy as hell. Almost done with the left side

Now doing the right side, so far so good

OUTSTANDING!!! Looks good and the fit is on the money. Eventually I will have to cut the whole setup to accomindate the air conditioner. But for now, a major problem has been resolved and I can move on to the next thing

When I first started I installed the lightbridges and covered them with Aluminum flashing which turned out great, but as I got further into the build I decided that I need to backtrack and make some improvements so here I'am taking down the light bridges

When I picked up the trailer I asked the shop foreman if there was any scrap ATP (Aluminun Tread Plate) that I could take off his hands. Fortunely he was cool about it and said that I come go through the scrap bin and take as much as I could carry, which when you have a 7x16 trailer you can carry A LOT!! Anywho, I decided to re-cover the lightbridges with ATP to sprinkle some pimp sauce on this sucka

Off comes the aluminum flashing...

and on goes the ATP. The beautiful thing about ATP is that it has the bling of standard diamond plate, but it is extremely thin and easy to manipulate and cut with metal shears. This stuff is hard to find and normally costs about $20 a ft

Almost there. It takes a minute to cut out the holes for the outlets

Looking at the ATP versus the aluminum flashing there is absolutely no comparision. Left side looks good

Now I'm taking down the right side. Again I will pat my self on the back for using hinges on the lighbridges. All I have to do is unscrew the board from the bottom half of the hinge and line up the hole to get the exact same fit when I put it back up

Oh that ****z is Cadillac shiny!!

Right side is good

Left side is good

My dad, who by the way is an evil genius and puts me to absolute shame when it comes to building stuff is fabicating a frame to fit the air conditioner

Measure twice and cut once

Not to beat a dead horse but measure twice and cut once man...you only got one shot when you start sawing out the front of my brand new trailer

This the bracket that my dad fabicated to hold the air conditioner. The uber cool thing about this bracket other than it's design is HE MADE THE DAMN THING OUT OF A SET OF BEDRAILS!! Like I said...evil genius

The plan is to slide the bracket under the wood walls and bolt it into the metal framerails across the front

Perfect Fit!!!

Now I need to trim down the encasement and re-install the frames.

Seeing as I have A/C now, I unplug my blower and power this sucka up. Although you can't feel it, this puppy is blowing nice and strong

I'm trimming the slat board to fit around the air conditioner

Damn!! I'm good!!

At this point I'm still waiting on electrical and speaker wire to be rab before I permanently put the walls. I hope to have electrical done this weekend so I can move on to the next thing
