Buy it, strip it, accurize it, glass it, paint it. Who's in?

That's the plan!! SInce the spit is new to me, I just ordered from my LHS, the aerodetail book. Until the kit is in hand, the rest will have to wait..[]

If they keep releasing giant scale warbirds preople will have trouble deciding which ones to buy and/or they won't be able to afford all of their warbirds and then maybe the GS Mustang and FW190 will go on sale like the smaller ones and I might buy the FW190 . I already have two of their GS Mustangs so I have enough Mustangs for now.

By that time there will be some very nice Chinese engines to put in them too, and maybe the chinese will have a price war and the engines will get even cheaper . I can always hope anyway

Ed
I'm not complaining. It's a great problem to have.

Hi,

To my knowledge, most spitfires with the 6 exhausts were Mk 9's. These in turn were normally coloured Grey and dark Green, not the colours show on this model.

I assume that Topflite have done some basic homework and produced this version as a copy of a full size aircraft with these colours ??

I agree with Vertical Grimmace regarding the fit over cowl. It wouldn't be super hard to make it flush fitting.

It is nice to see Topflite produce these bigger models but it wouldn't take a great deal to make them better. My 2 cents worth.

Cheers,
Merlin Man.

Merlin Man, late model Mk V's came out with six port exhausts when they were fitted with the 50 series Merlin. Most of these aircraft were destined to go overseas to their operational area so who knows what camouflage scheme they would have been wearing.

Cheers,

Brad

As a british citizen, i have scanned the model, and declare it a good sports scale model, therefore, my country gives Top Flite permission to issue this large model to the colonies, [img][/img] we will of coarse, require a tax payment for use of our national symbol of freedom, enjoy, TALLYHO, always wondered, when they declare BANDITS AT 12.00, what happens if its 2.00, [img][/img] i see they have made a wise choice, by not making retracts available for this spit, but steering the buyer towrar robarts, have fun

The original J-ZW was a Mk.I Spitfire operated by 140 Squadron RAF. The TF bird is certainly no Mk.I but appears to most resemble a Mk.IX. By the time the Mk.IX was put into production the green/brown camo had given way to green/grey. Unless it represents a restored Mk.IX that was painted up in these markings it is not accurate for the Mark of Spitfire modeled.

The Spit looks great just like the FW190 but I'm bummed as it seems TF is forgetting about us guys who can't fly GS due to our small fields. Seems like TF is forgoing .60 size and just releasing GS.... Bummer.

You're in CA....aren't there other fields somewhat close to you that are larger? I did a check on AMA's webiste and there are a ton of model airplane clubs around Irvine and a slew out to 25 mile radius...and then a good deal more further then that(using 92602 as the starting zipcode)

Pomona club has two fields
Prado airpark has an 800 ft paved runway. open to all types of planes.
Norten field is 490ft and open to planes up to 81"

Anehiem is 9.6 miles and has provision for giant scale planes as well as float planes.

KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND CIRCLE is 10.7 miles from 92602..... has paved and grass runways. Engine size limit of 80cc's so I think that would accomodate a giant scale 50cc plane.

TRABUCO FLYERS is 11 miles.....has paved runway....giantscale...etc 450ft paved runway with 220ft side angle taxiway and covered pit areas.

CIRCLE CITY FLYERS INC 13.5miles

Hell...I drive 20 minutes to get to our field....seems like you have a lot of options and aren't limited to 60 size planes.

Those fields are actually a bit further from me. I'm closer to Mission Viejo/Aliso Viejo. Also, its not just about flying planes but flying planes with my buddies... There is a larger field closer to where I live but my buddies are still inclined to fly at our current field (convenience factor). Eventually, if all that's left are GS ARF's, I'm sure I'll be able to convince my buddies to join the larger club.

At least H9, with their new BF109, still seems to be coming out with .60 size ARF's

Worse case, I'll just have to be the first to fly and land a GS warbird on 200ft strip!

I have a field 3 blocks from my house I COULD use, but, its a short runway like you've got. 200ft isnt enough for most of the planes I fly now. I had a lot of friends that I flew with at the little field, but eventually, I just started going to the bigger 800ft field 20 miles away. Some of the friends did as well...and some didnt. Convenience is just not enough to keep me at a short runway. Even 60 size planes can be difficult to land on a 200ft runway let alone a giant scale. You can still fly with those friends of yours at the small field, but that doesnt prevent you from joining a bigger field location and flying there as well. You'll make new friends at the bigger field and be intorduced to stuff you dont see now. You can still usually fly small planes at a larger field. Heck...we have ppl at hour 800ft runway location that fly the little tiny micro EDF jets that are only like 12" long. No one says a thing.
