What power are you running on it? I don't have engines picked out yet, and this build was planning OS GT33, which got my attention, and some others are running DLE 35 RA and I was wondering how they are doing.

My National Balsa kit has more parts than the OP's had, probably he had some small part in that they are now correct. I just opened the box yesterday after getting it at the Toledo show, all the wood is good except 4 of the 6 plywood panels the parts are cut out of are warped, but NB is going to replace them. So far that makes 3 companies that have good, if not great customer service, SIG, MPI, and now National Balsa.

Using DLE35RA,doing fine so far. There are many good engine choices, but I like the rear exhaust for fitting inside the cowls.I have not run the engines with the cowls yet, some concern about cooling, but should be OK.

How much cutting of the cowls do you need with those engines? The least amount of cutting is what I am looking for. My H9 P-47 with a DLE 30 has just the hole for the exhaust, and I cut that pipe down a bit for a better fit. If all I see are the pipes out the bottom, that would be ideal.

Added balsa to the hinge blocks. Never did hinges like this so I added the gusset for a little extra strength. Not sure if its needed but what the heck.

I would remove some of the balsa on both sides of the hinge blocks and build them back to the right width with some 1/8th aircraft plywood. Then you will want to add a piece of brass tubing in the hole that has an ID the same size as the piece of piano wire you will use for the hinge pin. This will save the wood from getting to much slop in it after it has had a few flights on it and vibrations start to open up those holes.

Seems like everyone I came across was half finished with the OP not logging in for a couple years. Is it a Cursed plane build?

Glad I found this thread too, and read through it all. I obtained what I believe to be a Ziroli B-25, likely the 101" version. It is mostly built, glassed and in primer. Haven't measured anything yet to be certain it is a Ziroli 101" one or not. Don't have the engine cowls, but I do have the retracts, the greenhouse covers (cockpit glass etc.), and the interior kit (looks like some resin parts in there too).
Looks to have been well built, but that's just my opinion! Also needs to have some of the flight control surfaces built as a few are missing. One of the firewalls had script on it saying it was "custom built by", but I don't recall the name. Will have to check back with that. Always liked the B-25 but not sure what I'll end up doing with it. Any how, hoping you you guys might have ideas on how to determine if it is a Ziroli B-25? Thanks.

The firewall is a little over 7" in diameter on the 1/8th scale (101")

Is this your firewall?

There is a build thread here http://www.rcscalebuilder.com/forum/...85&PN=1&TPN=89

It appears it was never finished since the last post was over a year ago.

acdii,
Thanks for the reply (and Happy Thanksgiving to all, sorry for forgetting to put that first!). There is a firewall with a signature, and the firewall is very, very similar to that. I can't recall the name at the moment, but I think it said built for "Gary Weaver" maybe. But, it is in primer in that state for the most part. This B-25 might be a bit more than a year old though, not sure. I will try to get some pics and post late Saturday, would love to get as much info on it if anyone has some. Thanks again acdii!
Mark

also tried to register on that site, kept getting error messages because of the "Captcha" crap, I mean stuff....

I had the same problem trying to register, I found that if I just go to the home page and then try to register, that worked better. I think there were a line of kist in the early 90's that were handcrafted for people and signed by the owners. Sounds like that is what you got.

Well that is more than I have done, but I just started mine this month. I seem to be short about 12 sheets of 3/32 for the sheeting of the wings. Not sure if its an oversight of the "kit", or I did something wrong. According to the plans the top and bottom of the entire wing is 3/32, and I used all the sheets except one for the sheeting, the single sheet was used for the caps on the trailing edge and part of the flaps, though I later discovered the leading curved edge of the flaps should have been 1/16 instead. The rest of the flaps are 3/32.

I only have this much done as I injured my arm, and have been out of work (but in my shop) for the last month. I go back monday, so progress will go back to normal. I had a buddy that needed to make a balsa USA order, add my list to his. I think I'll have enough sheeting. I'll know soon!

Just picked up 10 more sheets, bought out what they had. I also got temp screws for assembling the wing tubes and nacelles. Once I get close to finishing then I will order all the correct bolts needed for it. I need 2 1/4" 8-32 for the wing tube connection, and couldn't find them in cap heads, so will order those along with bulk 6-32 x either 3/4 or 1" for the nacelles. While at it got the wood to use for the crutch assembly support. I think it is in this thread that I saw them in use and thought, perfect idea.

I finally found clear 4 mil sheeting to cover the plans with too, that plans protector stuff TH sells is horrible, glue sticks to it way too easily.

acdii,
Heres a pic of the backside of firewall. It is indeed the same builder (Chuck Gill & Sons) that likely built this, at least up to some point. Would like to find out more, still undecided on whether to keep and finish it or maybe let it go. Thanks.

Thats a decent kit you got there. That thread I posted stopped a year ago and I was wondering what happened, but looks like the one you have isn't the same one in that thread. Would like to know what happened to that build. Pretty scary when you come across several build threads of this plane that suddenly stop with no explanation. Makes you think these are cursed.

I don't think there's a curse, but..I suppose..... In any case, I think it is a decent plane. It does have a little hangar rash, nothing big, and I did get the retracts, wheels, and the cockpit kit with it. Couldn't find the cowls though. I checked Ziroli's site and it looks like they only have cowls to fit the 118" B-25. Do you know if anyone offers them or if the cowls are still available? It might be missing an aileron or flap too, so I might be looking for a used set of plans if anybody has a set they no longer need. Thanks acdii.
