I had mechanical, not sure now the brand, but buy a good retract servo. I had two cheep servos and the teeth on the gears kept breaking off. Finally bought a Futaba and eliminated the problem. I...

For what its worth, mine had mechanical retracts which worked fine but it was a tail dragger. Single servo in the wing, not the air tank, valve and tubes needed for air all jammed in the narrow fuse....

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

Just a note on mechanical retracts, Don't waist money on a cheep retract servo. I spent many bucks on a cheep Hitect retract servo with plastic gears. The slightest miscalculation, the gears strip...

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

yukonflyergood looking bird. If it flys as good as it looks you'll have a great time. As to Zor's comment about inverted wing, at first glance it appears that way but after a closer take it's ok.

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

Get heavier wires and make softer landings!! (I'm just bugging ye) I have machancal retrats on mine and kept stripping out gears on the cheep serve until I spend extra for a futaba servo. Gears are...

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

Good looking bird, but if you have retracts why was the whole flight with gear down?

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

After I built mine I decided to add manuel retracts. Takes a little work but well worth it. Not only that but it is more attractive in flight with the legs up.

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

I really can't say for sure what was the cause other than it would not respond to control input, flying straight in a slight downward direction. All I could do is just stand there and watch until it...

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

My first US60 had a simular problem. I had a Futaba 7C and suddently it went into fail safe. Throtle dropped, no response to commands from transmitter. It finally went kaboom in a wheat field...

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

I built on a sheet of drywall covering the table. I think a sheet is 5 X 10. I then cut it to fit the hollowcore door and screw it down. Then just thumb tack the plans to the dry wall. Sometimes I...

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

Hay Zor, thanks for the corrections. Actually we were both saying the same thing with the only difference you were speaking Canadian and to some extent pure English while I was speaking Oklahoman,...

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

Zor I might just a well put my two cents in this as long as we are talking about stalls. You are correct as far as you went in describing a stall. Actually a stall is technically when the wing...

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

Thanks for the info. I have had several planes over the years with this type of gear, just never heard it referred to as a dural gear. In fact I modified an old 60 size Sky Rader for this type gear...

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

I hate to confess I'm not the brightest bulb in the room but would someone please explain to me what a "dural gear" is and how it helps control during rough landings. I have built 2 60US and don't...

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

I do agree with Minnflyer that the longer gears did make for instability however in my #2 with the shorter gears that seemed to vanish. Moving the gears out one rib would eliminate the folding of...

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

I'm not sure I agree with Minnflyer about moving the gears out board one rib length (4"). My first US had manuel retracts with standard length gears and the wheels were up into the belly pan. I was...

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

Ever thought about a Magnum? I have a couple of 60s I'm impressed with. Another in my club has a 90 4-stroke which we both are impressed with. They appear to be copies of OS except about half the...

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

Don't want to brag but this year so far I built the Super Sportster 60 then the Ultra Sport 60 and now have the Extra 60 on the building table. So far though I like the US 60 best. I'll let you...

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

Only had a couple of chances to fly my new 60 size US with a new Magnum power. Don't know why would need any more power. This is my second OS60. The first had an OS 72 which was ok but now as...

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

Shucks JP, if you lived in Oklahoma rather then God's Country, that would be an ever day occurrance. If you can't fly in the wind, you can't fly in Oklahoma. We've had 15-20 MPH with 104+ daily...

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***

Has anyone mounted the engine inverted instead of horizonal as shown on the plans? What are the pros and cons of mounting it inverted? I think inverted would give a more smooth appearance instead...
