Tank questions (Abrams and japanese Type 10)
Hi there,
I live in germany and had no rc tank yet.
A friend of mine built a tamiya leopard and i like it quite much.
What i would really like to have is an abrams tank with the specific gas turbine sound which is of the same build quality as the tamiyas or better.
Only ones i found are the (much cheaper) heng long tanks.
Is there any higher quality abrams tank in the market ?
I also thought of the new tymiya type 10 japanese tank as an alternative.
While searching for info in the internet i found this site: http://hitomaru.jp
Its one of those subscription based models but for me it looks very interesting.
I guess there is no chance to get one of these outside of japan ?
Has anyone more information about that model and could translate the details from the site ?
Otherwise i have to start learning japanese
Thanks in advance!

Maybe the DKLM-RC lower hull complete with PDSG gearbox + HL upper hull ( buy seperat)
http://www.dklmrc.com/product/m1_metal_chassis
and use a Clark board for sound and controll ? ( ore ibu 3 )
here is challenger with same setup ( lower hull + PDSG + IBU3)

The type 10's are available here in the US so I would assume they are available in Europe also. There are ways to get a nice tank with out having to find a kit. Many very nice tanks you see start of as a Heng-long and with upgrades by the owners can be very nice. You can get good control and sounds with boards like the IBU3. Here is a thread on the type 10. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/rc-t...ld-review.html Here is a link to an Abrams that Eric upgraded to show some of what can be done. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/tank...m1a2-tank.html

Could i take the HL RC for all functions of a new board or should i buy a new one ?
Btw, can you tell me what the original HL tank weight is and what the DKLM Combo is weighing ?
The sound of the challenger in the first video is from a sound board or the original ?
Lots of questions, sorry

Matomart in Canada has Chinese Tanks
I have always found that you have to have an open mind in hobbies, sometimes you can't find exactly what you want but always something else that tickles your fancy.

The DKLM lower hull looks very nice. So in addition i would need a complete HL tank (to get the upper hull) plus new board and sound and a new remote control ?
You could ask : http://www.rctank.de/USM1A2-ABRAMS_1
if he has a spare top to sell , so you could combine it with the DKLM Lower hull .
The PDSG gearbox in the DKLM lower hull requiers either Clark TK 24 -60 board, ore a Ibu-3 to be controlled ( it is somewhat same style gearbox as in the tamiya leo and t10) with that you will get an 'all in one ' controll and sound board .
For controlling most of my tanks I use a cheap 4-6ch hobbyking style radio, I'm sure you could find something simular in a nearby hobbyshopp to you .
Could i take the HL RC for all functions of a new board or should i buy a new one ?
the HL 2,4ghz is not bad at all , but sound , and the ability to controll the PDSG gearbox is absent
Btw, can you tell me what the original HL tank weight is and what the DKLM Combo is weighing ?
Sorry

that is the IBU3 Challenger soundset. With these new cards you can upload your own sets.
Like these I made

Thanks!
Its no problem to get Remote control unit here and i have charger and battery from a different project.
For the electronics i tend to the clark TK60 or maybe ElMod... have to check where i can get the most realistic abrams sound.
I asked at DKLM and they told me that they can also offer me the turret of heng long tank.
Still have to check if this would be inside my budget but it sounds good.
Lower hull alone should weigh about 6.5 Kg

Be careful about the weight of the model. Adding all the metal sounds enticing but all it largely does is put stress on the drive train and structure so you end up having to upgrade everything just to get the performance back to where you started.
I have gone away from metal everything even tracks and only use metal roadwheels and suspension arms. After all, these modern tanks are fast so it's worth sacrificing a bit of torque for speed - just my opinion.
cheers

The drive train of the DKLM chassis sould be powerful enough to move the tank.
I prefer slower speeds and would like to have a tank which feels heavy... Dont know how to express that in english

Okay, i made a decision and ordered the DKLM M1 Abrams chassis.
Will take a while until its here so i have enough time to check for the right remote and electronics.
Thanks for all your input !

Since you're in Germany check out rctank.de, Dominique has been my favourite retailer for many years and provides EXCELLENT service as well as detailed answers to technical questions. He can probably get you Abrams parts or most anything you need to complete a build, he's very accommodating.
They also carry most Taigen & HL upgraded versions if you decide to expand your fleet. I've ordered several because I can get them with the included items I want for less than ordering here in North America. For a long time they were the only suppliers of the Panther F model that's only now coming out here, so they have a hand in designing too.
