ROAR
(Remotely Operated Auto Racers) is the National non-profit
corporation organized to promote the sport of radio controlled
model car racing.
ROAR rules have been the guidelines for R/C car racing for
over 39 years. They are designed to promote fair competition,
safety, and define what equipment can be used in ROAR competition.
ROAR does not run races below the National level, but it does
sanction races from the club level to Multi-Regional Championships.
All ROAR members are eligible to enter these races. ROAR is
the North American representative to the International Federation
of Model Car Racing (IFMAR). As such, ROAR is the only organization
that is authorized to qualify and send drivers to the IFMAR
World Championships. More ROAR members have been crowned World
Champion than from any other organization.
The
ROAR Nationals are comprised of 5 different races that are
held at different locations around the US. The 2009 Fuel Off
Road Nationals were held on Jul 16-19 in Joliet, Il. RCU was
on site to capture the event and repot it back to our members
here.
We
hope you enjoy the RCU coverage of this event.
The
2009 ROAR Fuel Off Road Nationals were held on Jul 16-19,
2009 at the
Leisure Hours R/C Raceway in Joliet, Il. The raceway is
a bit out of the way and can be a bit difficult to find, but
that does not diminish is as an event venue as this raceway
was one of the best I have seen in a long time. Their off-road
track was in excellent condition, and the crew of Leisure
Hours did a superb job of maintaining the track throughout
the event. The staff of Leisure Hours definitely deserve a
pat on the back for the work they did to host this event.
The
event opened on the 16th of July with open practice to give
the drivers a chance to learn the track and to get their cars
dialed in for the conditions of the track. After the practice
wrapped the drivers got down to business on Friday and Saturday
as the qualification rounds started up. Watching these drivers
work to secure their positions in the Mains was indeed a sight
to see as these were indeed some of the best drivers in the
nation. But even with the fierce competition on the track
the air in the pits and the sidelines was one of friendship
and family. It's always nice to see competitors having fun
with each other when they are off the track. This is surely
a sign of true professionals. The qualifications wrapped up
late Saturday afternoon. Check out the Qualifications
Results to see how they all stacked up.
The
lower mains for the event were held on Saturday evening in
order to help get everything wrapped up in the weekend. Once
the lower mains were out of the way the upper mains were held
on Sunday. The racing was indeed some of the best I have seen.
Instead of me trying to depict the racing here it would be
easier to simply check out the videos of all the races below.
RCU
is proud to bring you the racing action from the 2009 ROAR
Fuel Off Road Nationals. Below are all of the "Mains"
from the racing action. However, because of the length of
the races (15 - 45 minutes depending on the race) we are unable
to show the races in their entirety. The videos below have
been edited to be able to get the videos here so that they
may be viewed online and still bring you all of the racing
action that took place. They have been edited so that any
actions from the race will be included and parts such as one
car with a huge lead circling the track by itself have been
removed. We hope that you enjoy the racing action from this
event.
This
is what it's all about come race week. Drivers pushing their
cars hard as they race. We present here pictures of that racing
on the track. We hope that you enjoy the pictures from the
2009 ROAR Fuel Off Road Nationals.
RCU
is happy to announce that we are now making available high
resolution copies of all the pictures presented here. These
pictures can be purchased in either print form or electronic
downloads. Also available are downloads that include full
rights for use of these pictures for commercial purposes.
Please follow this link to purchase these pictures.
What
are "The Faces" of the event? These are the people
that make a ROAR Nationals Race the special event that it
is. These are the drivers, sponsors, pit crews, ROAR Officials,
media reps, vendors, wives, girlfriends, significant others,
parents, kids, brothers, sisters, and anybody else that has
a part of the event. We like to present pictures of these
people "in action" at the event. So with that in
mind, we give you "The Faces of the 2009 ROAR Fuel Off
Road Nationals"!
Any
race event is more than just the cars on the track, and
anybody that has been to these events knows exactly what
we are talking about. So when we cover an event such as
this we like to try and capture some of those sights.
No
matter how good a driver is they do happen to everybody
from time to time. We're talking about the bumps, bangs,
bobbles, bounces, flips, spins, and crashes involved with
racing RC cars. We're talking about those moments where
all you can say is "Oops". While we don't like
to see anybody crash it's funny that we just can't seem
to take our eyes away when it does happen. We don't want
to embarrass any of the drivers here, but rather we want
to bring our readers those "less than perfect"
moments that happen to everybody.
Wow, great amount of coverage, and quality stuff too! This is the type of thing that will keep growing the popularity of RC! I am not a big nitro guy, I couldn't tell an 8ight from a RC8, but these videos were great to watch! The buggy final was some great racing.
