RE: Don Muddiman Flying Machine
I also remmember watching Don fly at Byron Originals in 1991 when I was 4 years old and still to this day He is one of my heros in this sport. I built my first Flying Machine about 8 years ago and have flown it at many diffrent fun flyes preforming the same aerobatics as Don and have been keeping the FM alive in Michigan. My first FM had a few different color schemes, the first was after Dons loctite 1 FM and the last was the white, blue, and orange. Over the years the plane has been getting pretty beat, so a few weeks ago I decided to build a new one. The first Flying Machine only took me 3 days to build, my new one took 3 weeks. Yup, I'm getting older and slower. My new one is in the ZAP colors because I'm trying to keep the originality of Dons FM since I'm basicly doing what he dose down south, and its a sweet looking plane. I mostly fly giant scale but the FM is by far my favorite. I'm glade to see there is so many people still flying this plane. I think the Flying Machine will be around for many more years.

I had several conversations with AirBus Driver..Very Nice Guy!!!
BUT, the shipping cost to Michigan was ridiculous...besides Nitro,
I thought you were going to pick it up from him.....
What happened???

My friend who owns a local hobby shop was suposed to help getting me a box to safely ship it.....
It still might happen, the price is right, that's for sure, it's just getting it from point A to B without UPS trashing it

Flying Machine ARF update 06/15/2011
I have terminated my contract with EAST R/C to produce the Flying Machine ARF. It was a mutual agreement between Dave Hockaday and myself as no kits have been produced over the past three years. There had been many issues beyond his control that compounded the delay along with effects form a bad economy. I am happy to say I have now contracted with CONDOR Productions (Fred Culbertson) to produce the Flying Machine ARF kits. I have known Fred for over thirty years.
CONDOR Productions is a new company to the R/C industry that will be producing many products. I will not provide a release date but I will tell you they are gung ho on getting the Flying Machine ARF produced ASAP and there will also be an electric version. At this time their web page has not been completed but you can contact CONDOR Productions via [email protected]
Best Regards,
Don Muddiman

RE: Don Muddiman Flying Machine
Hey Fellas, I wanted to chirp in here to let everyone know how proud we are to provide the Flying Machine. I have one of Dons prototypes and all of the cad drawings to provide an ARF kit of (what I consider) one of the best RC aircraft on the planet.
I have known Don for many years and it is a privilege to provide the only commercial Flying Machine ever promoted to the RC community. I personally have had 7 Flying machines in the last 20 years and know from experience how fun this aircraft is and to have access to an ARF kit of this model will be a lot of fun.
We will provide several versions including nitro and electric as well as different decal sets. If anyone has any request, now is the time to make yourself heard. I will be working with Inov8tive Designs to provide a Scorpion electric version as well as an OS 46 and OS 55 kit.
This is great timing as Condor Hobbies will be open for business in about 45 days and promoting the Don Muddiman Flying Machine is a great start. We already have a warehouse and manufacturing plant to include employees working to provide Don with our prototype so I expect to have kits available in the very VERY near future.
I will keep everyone updated as to our progress and will accept Pre-orders as soon as I can give you a firm delivery date. I can be contacted (prior to launching our website) at [email protected]

Don,
I own a set of plans, but please do not stop selling them.
Maybe I need to get a backup set before they go away?

Also, I don't want to stir a can of worms here, but I have to ask for my own knowledge.
Do you think this plane can get the speed it gets with a good .40-.46 sized glow engine like a Jet, Rosi, etc.......with current electric power?

RE: Don Muddiman Flying Machine
The electric version will meet (but most likley exceed) the current power to weight ratio of the aircraft. The only consideration we are toying with now is flight time vs batterysize andweight. With the amount of power needed (and to get the lightest FM possible) we might be looking at 6 minute flight times. Still testing.

RE: Don Muddiman Flying Machine
There will be very little (if any) modifications to Dons original design. Don is the technical advisor on the project and we are contracted with him to provide the Don Muddiman Flying Machine. If Don doesn't sign off it doesn't get built so I can guarantee this airframe will be a 100% Muddiman endorsed kit. HE is the only guy who can approve the final product so I wouldn't expect anything different from his 28 year tested design.
With that being said, we would be foolish not to consider input on any project we manufacture.

RE: Don Muddiman Flying Machine
Glad to see the FM ARF is once again moving forward!!! I built my first Flying Machine back in 1988 and have been a fan of this design for many years. Here are a couple photos of my current scratch built FM.
