Looks good. What propeller do you have on the Wren?

How does the Tucano compare to the JMB PC21?
I had three flights on Saturday, all with similar landings...so far so good!
I’ll check my turbine readings next time I run it up, it does seem strange that my flight times are lower than others out there. I’m generally flying half stick with full for the vertical climbs, so nothing outrageous.
The Juniaer Tucano is a far superior finish to the JMB PC21 and a more manageable size. Having said that, the PC-21 was a very easy plane to fly and the landings were super slow.

Didier,

I make ground tests with a SEP 20x14x3. Maximum at 6000 rpm

I’ve installed a CARF smoke tank to increase the fuel capacity by approximately 1.4ltr.

Looks good, I like how you have done the aileron and elevator linkages.

Yesterday, I flew mine for the first time with the extra fuel tank and achieved 8 minute flights with enough fuel for a couple of go arounds.

I had 4 flights with my Tucano last week. I still have to tweak the flightcontrol settings but it flys great. I have my timer on 6 minutes and after landing I have about 50% left in the fueltank with mixed throttle settings.

Tucano’s 3 firsts flights done today. What a great plane ! It flies perfectly, the Wren44TP fits like a glove.

Ailerons travels have been reduced compared to manufacturer recommendations, and a litle mix Flaps -> Elevator down is added. CoG at 130mm is a good way as basis. Slow down and landing are easy with little more flaps than recommended.

I will communicate my own settings as soon as definitely validated.

Stéphane

Hello,

Some details about the K45TP engine mount modification to adapt WREN44TP.

I suppose photos are self-explanatory, but do not hesitate to contact me if you need more details.

I can supply the engine frame design in DXF file upon request.

Engine frame is made in sandwich Carbon 200g / 3mm Plywood / Carbon 200g / 3mm Plywood / Carbon 200g. Total thickness: 9mm

The gluing area of engine frame is reinforced with epoxy resin + microballoons filling + carbon cloth. Sorry, I forgot to take photo of reinforcement....

Upper engine hole is drilled in 5mm diameter, linked to the main fuselage frame with 5mm x 150mm length screw, with aluminium spacer 7x5 mm diameter.

Stéphane

Hello,

This is the stock curved exhaust of the early version of Wren44TP (mine was bought in 2008).

Later modified on straight one on 2nd version of W44TP.

Stéphane

Looking good.
Have you tried moving the balance point rearwards? Mine requires quite a bit of down elevator for inverted flight.

Thanks.
I still fly the Tucano with the CG recommended. That means empty tank, UAT full. I have a little bit of down elevator with flaps up. Almost no down required during inverted.

Like the manual suggested, no takeoff flaps required.
With the 14” pitch prop and K45tp, I found it hard to bleed off the air speed during landing with the suggested flaps settings due to the slick design and high idle rpm. So I programmed more flaps and a little bit of crow. Now the landing is more manageable. All is based on personal preference, length of runway and which engine you install.

I just recently ordered the turboprop configured for the Xicoy. Plan is to install Electron retracts and Eurokitshop struts which are hydraulic.
As asked in another post, would folks with flying Tucanos be willing to share their control throw data (flaps, elevators, ailerons if different from manual). I am particularly interested in the flap-elevator mixing amount.

Hi Didier.
I'm awaiting a Tucano for the Xicoy 45TP. Would have a few q's if you don't mind re. your landing gear set -up & brake conversion. I think of doing the same.
Have dropped you a PM on this matter. Hope you find the time to reply, would be much appreciated.
Speaking of the landing gear: has anyone weighted the Simoes struts with the original wheels?

Do look at Eurokitshop for struts. I have them on three airplanes and plan on using them on the Tucano as well this winter. Their struts are machined (not cast) to close tolerances and are hydraulically damped. Beautifully made and they eliminate any bouncing if the descent rate was a little more than ideal.

Hello All,

Hereafter my settings validated after 20+ flights, perfect in my taste for scale manoeuvres:

TRAVELS:
Ailerons : + 13 mm / - 9 mm - Expo 30%
Elevator : + 25 mm / -15 mm - Expo 35%
Rudder : +- 45 mm – Expo 35%
Flaps : Take-off : 17 mm / Landing : 55 mm - Elevator down mix : 12% (- 1,8 mm) - Butterfly : N/A
+ : Up / - : Down

CoG: around 130 mm from LE at wing root (as manufacturer's recommendation).

Gyro CORTEX Pro individuals settings:

Overall gyro gain: 100% at low speed (gear down or full flaps), 60% in normal flight.

Best regards.

Stéphane
