Here is one of my landings. Its a very easy plane to land and fly.

Chris,

Just curious, what's the length of that runway? Our home field has a runway that is 400' , so this will be the main field from which my F-22 will fly. I don't think landing will be an issue, but not sure if more space might be needed for take offs.

If you have clean runoffs you should be good. It will takeoff easy in 400 feet. The thrust vectoring gets her up fast. My runway is 700 feet. We have trees on the approach so i came in a little high. 400 feet should be ok for landing. Just need to be on your game.

Some more info on the flight controls.

On the first flights I was moving rudders in and it was picking the nose up and had nice drag.

These last flights I moved rudders out with flap and it causes it to pitch down allot. So I will change the rudders back to moving in with flaps. The real one moves them out after landing for speed brakes but I will just leave them in.

Could make a mix with your brakes so they go out when you apply brakes which is nice since it will keep pressure on the nose for steering and then with no brakes applied and just flaps they can go in for take off. I thought they moved in for takeoff like the F-18

They do move in for takeoff... I was watching videos of the real one but on the ground after landing they where always out so I did mine out. After more research they move in for takeoff landing until its braking.

I cant do a mix to move it in and out only one way. That is a gyro controlled surface and I only have one channel doing it with the smooth flight. So I will make them move in with the flaps down and leave it. The main gear is so far behind the CG it really does not need pressure on the nose gear anyway. Its got plenty.

Roger, I will try to mix something for in my radio that pushes them out when throttle is addle, gear down and brakes are applied to prevent it happening in flight. I did something similar to the F-14 to prevent flaps with wings back.

What's it doing? Mine has never had issues accept I had one cylinder leaking so I pulled it off and it had a small metal shaving inside from the machining process. Cleaned it out and lubed and its worked perfect since. This is still the gear from the prototype.

It just doesnt unlock well and have enough authority to close without help, down is fine, mains of course nose will break a finger lol. I have it on a two valve setup, so one puts pressure on the unlock and the other is for the gear only. I thought about shortening the spring that is on the unlock cylinder to make it easier but wasnt sure. I wanted to take the air cylinders apart to clean and re-lube but dont see a way to take them apart like you mention, im guessing the paint is covering up the seam.

Removing the cylinders was not easy if I remember right and I would not do unless you have too. I have never had unlock issues. So you have the one valve unlock first then after with a sequencer you have a separate gear up valve? That unlock will work with pretty low pressure but it needs to unlock before the mains try and move or it will bind up. I tried to save a channel and just use an air restrictor on the mains so the unlock would happen first but it was not consistent so used a sequencer and it works fine.

Yeah mine unlocks first then applies pressure via a different valve to the lift the gear

Hi Fenderbean, were you able to solve the main LDG problem and if so, how?

I havent had a chance to get back to it, working full time now so I havent had a chance to try. Rudders are are done now so once the gear is squared away it will be ready to go.

Great thread and thank you to all who are sharing. I flew my Yellow for a bit, loved the way it flew, didn't like the takeoff. It was a little small as well. Im very interested to go ahead with this model.

It seems like you guys are working out the kinks. LG and slats sound like we still need to keep an eye on. Is there any future thought of electric gear?

Can we order without the doors for weapons? Id be happy with the weight savings and am more interested in short field flight characteristics than the (very nice) super scale stuff.

I usually build mine but how much can be done as "arf" - can we choose certain level of prefab?

Looking into the servos you used - Id certainly like the rudder spline to match

Last question - seems single with Y is the way to go?

Thanks,
Dave
