I have been looking at those retract as well.
Let us know how you make out with them.. The price is certainly right..
Thanks,

Im looking at these retracts from hobbyking. And was wondering if the motor will fit inside the wing. These retract away from the motor. From the pictures it looks like there is plenty of space inside the wing. Could you see if a total length of 106mm will fit?

Here is the link:
https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-...-size-1pc.html

Thanks Martin
Hi Martin,
I'm afraid they will not fit. As you can see in the photo there is not enough room between the retract mounts and the wing root, and anyway on this composite wing you don't have easy access as you would on a balsa-ply plane

I think these HK units are made for the Brian Taylor Spit which is designed to take outward-retracting gear?

Hello everyone,
i was wondering if anyone has tried to mount an electric starter to his spit? I was thinking about getting one but im afraid it will not fit with the cowling. Thought about getting this one: Mile High RC - EME auto starter, DLE Electric Start,DLE Remote start, EME60, 60CC Gas Motor,DLE55, optic kill switch, great planes, omp, pilot-rc
Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Happy flying,
Richard

Richard you are correct the electric starter will not fit. I bought the EME 35cc with electric start for mine and it does not fit without hacking up the cowl. I'm going to have to remove the starter then I will be done with mine.

Nice!! How much did you cut out on the cowl for cooling? I don't want to cut out too much. Thanks

Cut out the bottom section and enough room for the cylinder head to receive air. In addition, I also drilled holes in the cowl just rear of each exhaust pipe. Engine overheating is a problem with this model so in addition I also put a heat baffle between the muffler and the carburator. The holes behind each exhaust pipe can't been seen and it provides additional hot air escape route

No flaps?

Those Spitfires do like as much as you can. Get 80 degrees and reduce elevator deflection. The model looks nervous.

More flaps make the model steady and just adjust throttle to decrease or increase sink rate

Just seems to be small deflection. I had this model and the more deflection you get the more stable approach

Here some photos on how i got around fresh air supply without altering engine fearing for the FG-40 plus extra photos from the "runway"...
For extra cooling I replaced the 12 fake pipes with real 45* cooper elbows....
Just finished to melt and pour 1.8 Kg lead ballast. Photos to come later.

for the prop it is BIELA brand here is an exemple :https://www.lindinger.at/en/airplane...+Blatt&first=0

For the spinner it is cheap but you have to groove the prop space: https://www.topmodel.fr/en/product_l...t.php&rows=100

Hey guys

What's the biggest engine possible on this bird? I hate underpowered or limited birds.

Depends on how much of the cowling you want to cut off. There was a guy who put a DLE50 on his. Since the plane is very tail heavy, a bigger engine isn't a bad thing. That said, mine flies GREAT on an EME35. NOT at all underpowered:

Default Choice of engines

I put à SAITO FG40 i did had to add 1.8 Kg to CG it. A DLE 55R is about the same weight as the fg40 but 2x more powerful. It is not higher, it is 1 cm larger cylinder wise and 3 mm shorter from back to prop. I think it would fit. I did cut the firewall back to fit rubber mounts and the engine. The motivation to fit the FG40 is that I had the engine from an previous project.

Thanks guys gor the input! I will se if a DA 50 fits or I will go with dle 35ra or da35.

I really hate adding weight to a plane. Will do everything possible to not add weight.

Consider a DLE 55RA if you go for a 55cc size.
