Maiden flight today on the Spit. Plane flys great as do all my TF planes. Cut down the aileron throw slightly. CG was right on the money. Both flights resulted in dead stick landings though and the...

RE: Top Flite Giant Scale Spitfire ARF

Great flight report - thanks. Will probably do the same on the nose weight . Looking forward to flying mine when I get my pilot. BTW - I put small wing tip skids on the wing like on my P-40. I know I...

sprayed with Krylon Satin Clear. After drying 24 hrs, go over it lightly with 0000 steel wool in the

RE: Top Flite Giant Scale Spitfire ARF

Still waiting for the pilot so I did a little light weathering to dull the shine off the finish a bit. Engine run this AM went well. Took a tip from Hellcat 417 and made some rubber pads from tool...

RE: Top Flite Giant Scale Spitfire ARF

Not quite ready to maiden yet. Waiting for pilot to return from the paint shop. final balancing and a little more weathering etc. Besides, at 99 degrees at 8 am it's been just too hot.

RE: Top Flite Giant Scale Spitfire ARF

I routed the ign lead on the side opposite the muffler and across the top. It is zip tied to the standoff to keep it clear of contact. The "office" is ready for the pilot who is farmed out for...

RE: Top Flite Giant Scale Spitfire ARF

Thanks for the pics. Got my pilot from Lyle and like he says - he likes to provide more pilot than you need. I had to cut him off at the knees (Bader?). He was too tall to fit on the seat pedestal so...

RE: Top Flite Giant Scale Spitfire ARF

Certainly another option. My friend who is using the DLE 55 RA has to use extensions on the stock muffler that comes with it.

RE: Top Flite Giant Scale Spitfire ARF

Took me awhile to work it out. How did your balance turn out?

RE: Top Flite Giant Scale Spitfire ARF

The cowl has to be worked on over the loose muffler. There are two holes in the side of the cowl that line up with the muffler bolts and allow them to be tightened after the cowl is in place. You can...

RE: Top Flite Giant Scale Spitfire ARF

I have a pilot from Lyle on the way. It looks like cooling might be an issue - especially here in the desert. Lots of air over the head but no exit - so - I cut a hloe in the bottom of the chin...

RE: Top Flite Giant Scale Spitfire ARF

Working on some cockpit stuff for a little change. Reinforced the control column with wire in the grip and balsa on the back. Also got the instrument panel ready to install. Mounted the servo...

RE: Top Flite Giant Scale Spitfire ARF

A little nose heavy still but this is only a preliminary ck. Now , on to the fuel system. I have never been a fan of holding my tank in with rubber bands so I made a small tray to mount it (Du Bro 24...

RE: Top Flite Giant Scale Spitfire ARF

Free Bird - I'd be interested in knowing how your plane balanced. We just did the preliminary CG check and found that the plane was so nose heavy that it took almost 3 oz in the tail wheel area to...

RE: Top Flite Giant Scale Spitfire ARF

I looked at the muffler for the P-40 and while the front is tapered, it appears that the exhaust pipes are angled to the rear.

RE: Top Flite Giant Scale Spitfire ARF

You don't have to make new markings - just put them in the right locations. BTW , this is my TF P-40.

RE: Top Flite Giant Scale Spitfire ARF

This might open up ,a can of worms , but it appears that TF has depicted the aircraft Sq markings incorrectly. My brief research has revealed that this particular aircraft was probably assigned to...

RE: Top Flite Giant Scale Spitfire ARF

The tail feathers are now glued on and hooked up. No issues. The cowl is mounted and reinforced per the manual. The only issue was the spinner screw needed a little machining to fit well. The bottom...
